"Hey, Annie." She holds up a small black box. "I have to hook it in to a power generator and then set the power level but it shouldn't take too long. The space station had a lot of useful stuff, not too hard to modify."
"Ohh, you like the kettle corn, huh? I got you," Annie beelines back to the popcorn, light on her feet--all but moving on her toes in fact, the way she used to move on the beach. "Do you want a drink? I've got juice and a beer."
But she's never seen Hope drink, come to think of it, so she's already getting out the juice.
"It's sweet but not just sweet. It's interesting." What she likes most in food is flavor, sweetness doesn't hurt either. "Juice, thanks." Hope does drink, but purely based off interesting colors and sparkles, combined with the fact it takes a lot of alcohol to effect her, she doesn't really see the point of beer.
"It's easy to make, too!" Annie says as she melts some sugar in her tiny microwave, then pours it over the popcorn. It...doesn't completely ruin the batch, anyway.
Sugar and popcorn are all that Hope needs, she doesn't exactly have high standards for what counts as 'ruined'.
Hope connects a final wire and brushes off her gloves. "Almost finished. I've had to mess with the plug a bit so be careful not to step on the lines but otherwise it should work. Tell me if there's a loud vibration." Loud for Annie, anyway, even if not for Hope.
She sits back on her heels, searching in another pouch before pulling out a can. "This might be able to help with the smell, if it doesn't I can probably calibrate it for your senses." Laurie had called it 'future air freshener', which Hope considers not entirely accurate, seeing as she'd put it together in the present, but far more accurate than 'present' air fresheners which put out a scent. It works to make the air fresh and free of outside scents or, at least, it had worked that way for Teon's senses.
It's almost like the sound that comes the day before a storm, Annie thinks. It's present and she can't quite tune it out, but it's not disruptive. "I hear it," she nods. But more importantly, her expression brightens. "I smell way fewer cats already."
"Good," she sits back in satisfaction. "Teon -" She pauses, growing more serious. "Have I ever told you about the Lights?" It's not a subject she brings up often or easily but Annie is important to her.

"Popcorn's good," there's a slight spark, another reason she wears insulated gloves, "Have you ever had the type where they put sugar on it?"
