[Annie has a long scratch on her cheek, and a tuft of fur she's trying to spit and pull out of the corner of her mouth.]
I hate cats, and they hate me. And at home, they stay the fuck away from me because we've got a deal, they smell me coming and I don't chase them. But here they're real ballsy and I'm not gonna do this for a week or a month or whatever. Help me make a cat spray or something?
[Hope considers a moment, running through her recent research on cats, which had been more enjoyable than a lot of the other subjects she's been working on.]
I can make a cat repellent. Also a spray bottle with water could probably help as a back up.
I'm going to be hiding in my room from the cats, if you two wanna come watch a movie sometime.
...Do you deal with cats in your world? [she'd reached out to Hope because, well, she trusts Hope. But also because Hope always seems to know what to do in any situation.
I can ask him. A noble gesture, to stop you being alone while hiding from cats. [She offers a slight smile with that, she's getting better at almost joking.
With her more usual seriousness;] You can come by here, if you need to. Or want a change of scenery.
Not often. There weren't any in the future or on Utopia. But I read up on them when they appeared. [Because information is the first step to know how to deal with any situation.] They seem mostly normal, for the moment, but I have plans in case they change.
It depends on the circumstances, though biting is probably a bad idea because you don't know if they're cursed or would be harmful to you in some other way. If they attack but remain otherwise 'normal', they shouldn't be too hard to take down. If they grow larger or develop powers, I have a range of protections and weaponry, mixed with potential distractions. They have better senses than humans which allows for a certain type of protection for humans if not for some of the rest of us.
That's all general, obviously. I have more specific plans that are based on the resources people can provide but those are more dependent on who's awake and capable if something happens.
There's also the possibility that they might have the ability to control people, in which case it's important to know how to deal with them and try to figure out how the control is working and break it.
[Just to lay out some of the plans she's working on. It's something of a never ending process.]
Yeah, I should have an even easier time blocking the smell. That had been very important, for hunting and then living around people with enhanced senses.]
I'd like that. Playing cards with you, not the cats. They wouldn't be able to hold the cards right.
[And as she's grown more comfortable here, she doesn't try to hide quite so much of herself behind solid barriers.]
I will.
[A solid fact, she follows through on her promises unless physical unable, and that takes a lot. She also has a deck of cards in a pocket, along with materials for the force field and sent blocker, because she likes being prepared.]
"Hey, Annie." She holds up a small black box. "I have to hook it in to a power generator and then set the power level but it shouldn't take too long. The space station had a lot of useful stuff, not too hard to modify."
"Ohh, you like the kettle corn, huh? I got you," Annie beelines back to the popcorn, light on her feet--all but moving on her toes in fact, the way she used to move on the beach. "Do you want a drink? I've got juice and a beer."
But she's never seen Hope drink, come to think of it, so she's already getting out the juice.
"It's sweet but not just sweet. It's interesting." What she likes most in food is flavor, sweetness doesn't hurt either. "Juice, thanks." Hope does drink, but purely based off interesting colors and sparkles, combined with the fact it takes a lot of alcohol to effect her, she doesn't really see the point of beer.
"It's easy to make, too!" Annie says as she melts some sugar in her tiny microwave, then pours it over the popcorn. It...doesn't completely ruin the batch, anyway.
Sugar and popcorn are all that Hope needs, she doesn't exactly have high standards for what counts as 'ruined'.
Hope connects a final wire and brushes off her gloves. "Almost finished. I've had to mess with the plug a bit so be careful not to step on the lines but otherwise it should work. Tell me if there's a loud vibration." Loud for Annie, anyway, even if not for Hope.
She sits back on her heels, searching in another pouch before pulling out a can. "This might be able to help with the smell, if it doesn't I can probably calibrate it for your senses." Laurie had called it 'future air freshener', which Hope considers not entirely accurate, seeing as she'd put it together in the present, but far more accurate than 'present' air fresheners which put out a scent. It works to make the air fresh and free of outside scents or, at least, it had worked that way for Teon's senses.
It's almost like the sound that comes the day before a storm, Annie thinks. It's present and she can't quite tune it out, but it's not disruptive. "I hear it," she nods. But more importantly, her expression brightens. "I smell way fewer cats already."
"Good," she sits back in satisfaction. "Teon -" She pauses, growing more serious. "Have I ever told you about the Lights?" It's not a subject she brings up often or easily but Annie is important to her.

[She's not quite joking.]
How can we keep them away from my cabin? I can't stand their little feet and their pee...
Re: private
I can set up a force-field, that should mean they wouldn't be able to get in when you open the door.

You're getting good at that.
Come by after dinner?

She usually leaves the door open, but with the cats around, she just waits until she hears Hope coming and then greets her. "Hey, girl!"

"Popcorn's good," there's a slight spark, another reason she wears insulated gloves, "Have you ever had the type where they put sugar on it?"
